30 Gorgeous Minimalistic Websites
Posted by damian.m in on Oct 2008 with 4 CommentsMinimalistic designs are those that uses the very basic elements of design to create something beautiful. These elements are Contrast, Repetition, Alignment and Proximity ( otherwise called C.R.A.P). However, some advanced elements and principles are used such as:
White-space: or negative space really is the dead space lives among every element in the design. If not used properly it can become wasted space.
Grid Structure: Using grid is really harnessing the power of alignment, proximity and placement in the layout. It’s very important because it can command attention, create visual pathways and help navigate users through a sea of content.
Typography: In most designs you’ll see the use of large bold texts or maybe some that are cropped. When typography is used with C.R.A.P and white-space it creates something astonishing and yet minimal.

Great list of navigation examples 642-971. I always think that the navigation of the site is one of, if not THE, most important part of the design. At the end of the day, the site can look amazing but if no one can get to the information they want to find they are going to click away and, more than likely 646-204, not come back.
